We're writing to let you know that we will be increasing the price of all our .uk extensions (including .co.uk, .me.uk, .org.uk and .uk) on 13 January 2020, due to the registry increasing their domain costs.

This price change will affect all .uk domain name registrations and renewals, with fees increasing from the current price of £9.99 to a new, standard price of £11.99.

If your .uk domain is due for renewal in December or later, make sure you take advantage of our existing rates by manually renewing your domain before January 13, 2020!

Easy money, reg everyoenes .uk's "free of charge" for 2 years, then whack a revewal fee on domains they might have never wanted to reclaim/gain profit they would never have had otherwise. Geniues business plan lol

Okay - so the competition to charge the most for a UK domain...

Names.co.uk in the lead at the moment with £14.99

I can (marginally) understand if additional services are thrown in as well, but for a basic domain registration...

123 are just having a laugh, they charge 99p +Vat to register a uk then add 'Domain Ownership Protection' for 5.99 (11.99 per year after the first year)!

What does Domain Ownership Protection get you? they say

Domain Ownership Protection keeps your domain protected from threats like domain hijacking and honest mistakes like accidental transfer or missed renewals.

and includes

Password protection for increased domain security
Complete identity protection through removal from the WHOIS database
Guaranteed failsafe renewal if yours fails for any reason

If I owned 1 domain name and couldn't be arsed moving, £14.99 is cheap.

We dropped our .uk domain price in protest at this. So we're now £4.84 + VAT per year. No gimmicks, no 'first year specials'. :)

Edited to remove the "below cost", not sure what I was thinking o_O

123-Reg are the epitome of incompetence. We've been waiting 11 days for them to transfer 13 domains into our account. The domains are on their tag but apparently because they were previously registered to another 123-Reg customer it's huge technical ask to move them. With no resolution on the horizon, today we decided enough was enough and was forced to pay Nominet £12 to get back control of our own names and just to cap things off, an error in the Nominet process meant I got charged twice. I've wrote to Nominet and told them I want one of the payments refunding and that if they had any conscience they'd refund both.

People must be either lazy or sadists to keep dealing with a company like this!

Not come across this before, what happened? Hopefully they refund both. But being Nominet I doubt they will. Let us know if they do!

During the final transaction I got an error saying one or more names couldn't be transferred to the new tag, so I clicked the previous buttons to go back 2 stages and changed the tag and this time it went through without errors but it seems they took a payment for the failed transfer. Nominet haven't replied either, these days they're only on the ball when you've not paid your invoices.

Nominet have now refunded both payments so maybe I should be less quick to judge next time. As for 123-Reg, they still haven't replied, useless!
