I've been using ahrefs for a while for free - just analysing competitor backlink profiles. There was a daily limit on my searches which was adequate for what i needed. Today i noticed it had changed and looks like you have to sign up to at least the lowest plan to see more than about 10 results.

Anyone else noticed this?

Been like this for a while. I upgraded to paid a few weeks ago infact. Love the tool.

I love the tool but it wasn't like this on Monday because i was showing someone it's functionality without any hindrance.

I'm not sure it's worth $99 per month so it was a useful tool to just use with it's limitations.

Anyone have any decent free alternatives?

Not a big fan since they removed the rankings functionality, that was the best part of it.

Majestic is £30/month, I would say that's the most similar. I don't really use free tools that much so I'm sure other people will chip in with better :)

i'm thinking of signing up to paid version, eve though think it's quite pricey!

had just seen that, i'm tempted to do the majestic trial and see how good that is

I'm with Majestic - love it! They always coming out with new features and improving ones to save you time. Big fan.

I've been thinking about all these tools if we could have a shared resource where we buy 1 forum account and members pay say £1 each per month for access. What I don't know is what happens if someone else is already signed in and does it save your history (so other people can see what you are researching)?

I have an Estibot account for example that lies idle a lot of the time.

Thoughts?

think the issue would be on limits as the $99 per month buys package with limits, so if all chip in and someone uses 75% of the limit... and also as you say history issues

nice idea though

Even if you only find one really decent link per month, subscribing to both Majestic and ahrefs is worthwhile..... I am currently sharing a subscription with a pal (cos I'm a cheap skate (when I'm sobre!)) and will be back with majestic shortly. Open Site Explorer is also good, not because of its indexing of links (cos its shite for that) but because it's DA/PA metrics are excellent... imo.
