Recently acquired, looking to develop rather than sell, would be interested to hear thoughts on this domain.

Yes, a very good domain which I'm sure a lot of streaming technology providers would be interested in.

What are your plans for development?

Rgds

I have a number of ideas in my head at the moment, however with such a good domain as this though it's frustrating in a way as you want to really make the most of it and it's hard to decide on which idea will monetise the potential the most. And, not that I want to, but there's also always the temptation to sell and move on without lifting a finger.

Ideal for an ip internet based broadcasting station. Value? Got to be around £40,000 if not more. On your own you're probably not going to realise anything worth the domain's real potential unless you have the cash backing, I don't know, you might.

Forty thousand pounds would be nice, I'm certainly open to offers in that ballpark ;-)

I do have some backing but nothing significant at this stage. I have been involved in the streaming media industry for a while so I know the market if nothing else.

It's a tough one to decide on what to do but it's a nice problem to have at this stage.

Thanks for all your feedback thus far.

Looks like a ridiculously strong name to me....I might even be tempted to contact someone like Akamai.

Personally, I would sell it, because I think the value is in a streaming company using it to promote their technology, rather than in creating a website targetted at consumers.

Rgds

I'd say the domain is a significant enough asset to build a streaming business on top of.

What part of the streaming business do you have experience in (What skills etc. are you missing).

Thanks I'm really encouraged by everyone's feedback on this. My expertise is wide ranging and I can call on resources at my disposal so whatever I decide to do is not a problem from a skill's perspective. Funding it might be though ;-) I think streaming is here to stay and can only grow so the name's value will only increase IMO.

How about a site where people can upload videos and also watch them too?
I think something like that could catch on? :-D

Seriously, Good Domain. I personally would sell as it is worth money to the industry. Whereas going to the effort of designing a site with good content you wouldn't have to have such a generic domain. YouTube for example. Who would of regged that?

I think YouTube may have stole my thunder on that one!

Anyway, it's good to hear people's opinions keep them coming as I still very much undecided what to do.

livestreaming.com sold for $3,888. the.co.uk is already regged ;-(

in my opinion you should sell rather than develop. Unless you can strike a whitelabel deal with an existing Streaming video/audio company.

£40k sounds a little high to me.

I would value this as an undeveloped domain at about £10k.

Thanks for the appraisal, I think you are spot on with your opinion on the domain in terms of it's potential use. In terms of value, I've had a few biters on this but I'm of the opinion that it's worth holding on to unless a life changing sum is offered as I have no immediate need to sell.

Will the word and action of "streaming" ever be replaced or superceded? - that's the only question I'd ask...
If not, then presumably the value will increase.
If we're all going to be "rivering" or "torrenting" soon, then get shot...
If you use it as a portal to "streamers" like youtube and that genre, then, with participation and alliances, sounds like a winner.
Please don't turn it into a crappy "Ad's ' n' links" site - I think the general populus is getting bored of these.

Personally I'd hang on to it... but then I'm a hoarder...

Happy New Year!

Will

Thanks for the input much appreciated. Streaming is an often misunderstood term anyway. There are plenty of technologies out there which aren't streaming at all that people describe as such. So even if streaming was to be superceded it's still in IT lexicon for years to come as a generalised term for a way of delivering multimedia content. Most people associate watching or listening to any digital content with streaming so I think it's a safe bet but like you say who knows what's coming next.

Don't worry if it is developed it won't be an ad's and links site!

Message for Nick Stagg

Nick,

I'm knew to 'domains' - why would you contact Akamai?

Mark.

p.s. I also own datastreaming.co.uk do you think this is worth anything?

Akamai are a very big streaming hosting provider / content delivery network so hence they * may * be interested in streaming related domains.

I have never heard anyone use the term "datastreaming" and I work in the industry so I don't think it would have that much value unfortunately.

However, you never know, it's worth what someone's prepared to pay for it.

Streaming.pro sells for $18,000, so what does that make my domain - streaming.co.uk worth!! I've never even heard of a .pro extension.
