Hi all,

Just creating my first ever Hotel affilliate site, got integration with Late Rooms and loads of lovely content going in. :)

Question is, do I steer away from adding any other revenue options - e.g. Google Adsense? I don't want to distract visitors away from booking hotels. :D

Although I am thinking of adding a small 'hire car' search form or similar - bad idea?

I suppose the same question could be posed for any affilliate site subject really. :D

Thanks for the thoughts! :)

I think you answered your own question.

But I'd recommend split testing :)

Some people will put adsense at the bottom of the content. ie the user does not find any affiliate content they want to click on, so its kind of a last resort to stop them from simply closing the website.

Don't make the ads too many or too obvious and as you say, don't detract from your main target.

I'd try it without to start and see how it goes.

Thanks, soon yes, not quite ready to launch yet, nearly. :)

Thanks Bloss, will do!

That's a good idea, thanks Mat. :)

Or you can add the small hotel chain logos in the side bar, link them via aff links. You do basically the same job as adsense, but hold on to the higher commission available.

I do it on my cycle sites (some of them) - I think people like to jump out sometimes, and if they do it via a link then all the better. I pop them at the bottom too to collect drifters (as suggested above)

Interestingly, I find that the CTR and the CPC you get off adsense on affiliate sites is lower than the comission you can get - split test for a month may be useful.

I have in the past put together "affiliate ads" that look like adsense, but are links to my best sellers... worked a treat.. For a little while anyway.
