Hi all

I'm considering setting up a website, and it might become a biggie, so I'm looking for some decent hosting (preferably in the UK). The system I will be running requires PostgreSQL (not MySQL) which narrows down the potential hosts a bit.

Trouble is, there are literally thousands of hosts out there, and no real indication of whether many of them are any good in terms of speed, uptime, facilities, support etc.

What suggestions do you have as to a decent webhost? Ideally I'd like to go with someone who is established and has a bit of a name, but I am open to suggestions.

eapps

Almost 24/7 live chat support (can use tickets too but its so quick using live support)

They keep their servers clean... they phone you to confirm the account and who you are... you can install anything you want on the servers as required or have them do it for you... rails, postgre etc etc.

Worth checking them out. I have been mighty happy.

I ordered from eapps, they seem very professional (just chatted live to one of their support chaps) and apparently they even phone first-time customers as a courtesy (still waiting for that).

They are cheap than BPWeb so that was the deciding factor, also their servers seem very robust, and the ability to install your own stuff on a virtual server is a great.

Thanks for the suggestions folks :)

Glad they did the job for you. I really hope that they are as good for you as they have been for me. Indeed if you have any troubles PLEASE let me know so I can watch out for it... but touch wood, nothing but a smooth ride.

The control panel is great once you get used to it... you can do everything, and easily monitor resources etc. Really good.
