Brandable domains

Looking for opinions on brandable domains.

Would you buy a domain (.com or .co.uk) based on a marketing campaign, possibly a new tv ad.

I'm sure most of you would say yes. Im trying to be careful as the domain could look like I'm cybersquatting if its closely related to their campaign. Am I ok as long as there is no trademark?

Stick something relevant on it, a blog or review site. May help you defend your position should you need to at a later date.

The plan is to sell this to the end user so they can use for future marketing campaigns

No, if it's some slogan or something that they're using in adverts then they will still have rights in the term and will probably have grounds for action if you relate the domain to them in some way ie. contacting them and trying to sell it.

It's impossible to advise without knowing the domain/advert but your first post makes you sound like a squatter!

Thanks for the feedback.

I registered and put up a landing page, but not specific to selling it.

I've chosen not to contact them and will see if anything comes from it.

The domain in question has multiple uses so even if that specific brand in question are using it, I cannot see it trademarked or used as a slogan specifically.

I know they have created their youtube channel around this term but other than that nothing more yet. I may even develop the site at a later stage.

Personally I don't bother with such registrations, as I don't want to rely on a marketing department deciding to contact me for the domain to have any value.

I'd rather register domains that are valuable full stop, rather than to just one party.

Yeah I did that that it could be mainly limited to this one particular end user, but thought it was worth the risk and for the sake of reg fee and a little bit of my time putting up a quick landing page, twitter and facebook profiles setup.

Although your reason for registration could easily fall in with cybersquatting it would still have to be proven Without the name hard to tell its uniqueness, prior use etc but if they have no mark then register it yourself may maximize your speculative registration turn a low value into a high one? Also make sure you’ve checked any relevant trademark country searches ?

Although it may seem a bit weird at first glance, but believe it or not, sometimes the exact opposite of what you may think could happen. I mean in some cases, companies do love to see other people launching websites and talking about their commercial activities, ranges of products, services they offer and usually no problems will occur whatsoever. As an example, tons of domains have been registered and websites launched that list discount coupons of trademarks, brands, hosting companies and other domain registrars.
