Hi

I am considering buying a developed site at over $1000

Is there anyway of safegaurding my paypal transaction.

I am in the UK and the seller is in Canada and he prefers not to speak over the phone.

I feel vunerable :-(

Thanks
Brendan

Pay by credit card. This way you have protection. It it goes t*ts up you can do a chargeback.

that's wrong. If you are using paypal, the payment is from your CC to paypal, who then deal with the funds on their end. your CC Company, as far as they are concerned, have had a successful transaction, and whatever paypal then do, is between you and paypal.

Use an escrow service.

Maybe it has changed now?

Last year I paid for services through Paypal via my credit card. I never got what I paid for and I contacted my card company to do a chargeback (I didn't bother contacting Paypal as I know what they are like). 5 weeks later I received a full refund on my statement.

be careful

Hi,
be careful with cc companies. some are good , some not. they all give you money straight back if fraudulently used, they have to. it makes a nonsense of that cover people pay, as you are covered for that anyway.
however, if you authorise something & it's not fraud, just shite, then you may have problems.
example is if you buy something in a shop & a problem or not happy, normally you get money back anyway. if individual, different story.
if on here & for small sums or you know them really well, then i would say paypal or cheque. for a stranger & a decent amount...... split escrow costs. it could save you a few sleepless nights!
Predator
