Citrix Buys Cloud.com for More Than $200 Million

TechCrunch has learned that Citrix Systems is buying Cloud.com for between $200 million and $250 million. The deal should be announced within the hour.

Seems like a great buy, the name will really help them own the sector.

They bought the domain name recently , dunno what the price was but they were asking $250k

Despite a pretty good understanding already, Ive spent the last couple of days getting myself up to speed on 'Cloud' (remote sevices) Does anybody know where the word "Cloud" as a computing term originated from or its first use.

I know it was originally thought of as a term for strictly "Data Storage" but i'd still like to get a better understanding of the terms evolution.

Jesus - how strange is that to talk about "evolution" as something that is no more than a few years old

'The Cloud' is simply a marketing term. There is no definition and many companies interpret it in many ways ranging from a simple slice of a server to high availability failover, usage billing, scaling etc to software as a service.

Many companies are just jumping on the bandwagon and marketing products which have been around for ever as 'cloud' solutions.

The term cloud I would guess comes from the fact that the internet was always drawn as a cloud on network diagrams and similar to signify a network you dont control.
