David Bowie dies of cancer at 69

Been a crappy couple of weeks. I, like many others, got his latest album on Saturday. It seemed obvious to me that it was a 'goodbye' album just by the pure homage to all his old styles. Blackstar, outside of being an incredible song, showed a dead Major Tom in the video and contained a mixture of his different singing styles. It seemed to be saying that basically 'I have brought you all this over the years but no more'. I didn't think he'd be dead literally two days later though. As you get older, I'm 43, these deaths of legends hit really hard. Not only is it end of an era it reinforces our own mortality as we age. Thankfully I managed to see him in 1992 so will always have that memory.

Wish I was still 43! It hits even harder when they start dying and they are younger than you are. I'm not as old as David Bowie was but was older than Rick Mayall (local lad to me) was when he died.

One of my biggest regrets in life is passing up on the opportunity to a personal introduction to David Bowie when he had a meeting with someone I knew through work in early 80's. I waited for an hour outside the meeting room (he was inside) but then decided that I'd miss my train so left!

I was never much of a Bowie fan until I bought Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars from a CD sale at HMV years ago on a whim.

It's one of the few albums that has genuinely blown me away on listening to it first time, absolutely amazing.

Very sad news today.

Commercially well timed release of his new album.
Maybe the proceeds will go to cancer research, that would be impressive.

Loved Life on Mars.
R.I.P

in his last days he got to spend time with those that he loved and creating the music that he loved.

may each and every one of us, many years from now, have such comfort at the end of our days.
