What style of links page is best to go for in a website to maximize SEO efforts when handing link exchanges?

Ideally you want to make the page / pages gain a rage rank which is more attractive but what do you think?

I have seen different websites using the following styles:

1. A standard links.htm page which lists all different types of links in no particular order.

example: benches.co.uk/links.htm

2. A resources.htm page which lists contact information along with an address and link?

example: gasbbq.co.uk/gas-bbq-resources/index.htm

3. A whole resources directory which has many links broken down into different categories.

example: benchesbythebunches.com/resources/index.htm

Please discuss pros and cons.

just IMO

- don't ever use the word 'links' always use resources

- don't start out with an empty 12-15 page of resources (e.g. an empty directory) if you want to attract decent sites keep the resources page 1 click down from the homepage.

- have a separate page called 'link to us' with a couple of textareas with your html/anchor text ready for people - this will encourage people to link to you, approach you, then you can decide if they go on your resources page.

- order a directory submissions package (1000+) of inbound links - don't bother doing it yourself

Personally I don't think that it's worth doing unless it's a Blogroll / Top Links type permanent part of the navigation.

A lot of US domainers get a ton of juice from each other with a Friends / Top Links block that features on every page in their sites. A lot of them will only trade links for PR3+ Alexa Rank 500,000+, which I think makes sense.

Maybe us UK based guys should do something similar? UK links for UK sites are far more valuable IMO.

I totally agree with this,

where would be the best place to order a directory submissions package?

many thanks for your adivce guys

Not used them directly no, but have emailed the guy about a project and he actually said no as my site was already in most of the directories. Thumbs up in my book.
