DL Sale: Wages.co.uk (2,300 GBP)

The obvious choice would be payroll software, but I agree - it's not quite the right term.

IMO this domain went for a lot more then what it is worth.

A domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it no? so that's what it's worth (to them)

This being an auction, two people were willing to pay about that much for it

(this is my smart arse reply of that day :p )

I bought it for the potential as a brand in the payroll industry

You might be right, time will tell

In the meantime sell me your overpriced premium brandable EMDs

I think it's pants, can't believe it sold. Only be for a brand.. Maybe sage bought it :)

Good luck with the domain Ben, i dont mind saying i have received 3 higher offers in the past on this one. So im sure you will do well regardless.

In my experience you see two general outcomes with these purchases. They either get used/moved on for an actual project quite soon, or (when they realise its actually useless for its intended purpose) they just end up being put on the shelf, and then end up back in the system.

Anyway who said EMD's and hyphens are worthless?

That said it would be an expensive purchase for an adsense effort.. then again, maybe not..

i've noticed this before and mentioned it in the past - we all know what they say about how Google now works, but go right ahead and test away with product / service + location. EMD stiill feature on page one, no matter how celebratory 90s the website behind the link is.

I would tTake anything SEOs say with a large pinch of salt - though to be fair with well established sites the age is likely a stronger factor than the domain

Obviously in this case there is no sense trying to rank for the word wages and the search volume is irrelevant

anyone who knows 100% exactly how Google works isn't on this or any forum; they are either on a yacht being paid handsomely for their skills or are currently locked in a basement by Google ;)

for what it's worth, best of luck to the new owner and i hope it brings a most handsome and splendid return on investment.

Why would anyone buy a car that does 8 miles to the gallon.

To keep things in perspective when looking at domain costs.

Edwin posted these facts a while ago.

As a point of comparison...

A quarter-page ad in the Daily Telegraph costs £22,000
A quarter-page ad in the Sunday Telegraph costs £15,500
Mono advertorial page in the Daily Mail costs £45,612+ (depends on the day of the week)
A quarter-page ad in the Sun newspaper costs £141,067.50
A single 30 second ad on ITV, broadcast once, costs from £6,200 to £60,390 (depending on the time of day; all regions price)

And those are one time, fire-and-forget costs... At the tip-top end of the market, great domains are CHEAP!
