Am hosting a site on rack server but the .co.uk domain is hosted with reg'd with another company who handles all the email, so the a record just been changed to make domain resolve to the rack servers ip address.

All works fine except for ftp access - no mattter what I do.

Me being a bit of a make it up as you go along network pleb am probably missing something.. So my question has this been blocked or needs to be configured by the other compnay to allow ftp access?

thanks.

You do have an FTP server running on the server?
You do have the address you are connecting to pointing to the right place (as skinner said, you do have ftp.dom.co.uk with a cname record or A record pointing to the server).
If the domain resolves you can ftp to just www.dom.co.uk. Or in any case does ftping to the IP address work?
PM me the domain if you want me to take a look.

How you check ftp connection? Could it be that DNS cache in your FTP client has not cleared? E.g. WSFtp keeps the cache for ages. Did you change the NSs or individual records of your domain?

thanks for replies all.

all other sites connect with ftp fine, no problems.

I guess my main question is that I don't have contol over the dns records for this domain so could they have been blocked?.. but then i'm only connecting to a server so should it matter?

thanks
