We have found a new domain name research tool that may be of interest.

It brings a lot of the features we already have in other applications together in one piece of software. It is a real domainers tool with some very nice features.

Domain Research Tool has a free trial download so you can check 10 domains at a time to test it out for yourself.

The thing we like best is being able to do WHOIS checks as well as Overture Results (UK Server can be selected) as the same time! You can even see OV results with and without the TLD at the same time (nice).

Feature Summary:

Ability to scan various search engines in bulk including:
Alexa (Traffic Rank / Link Popularity)
Google (Link Popularity / Link Saturation)
Google PageRank
MSN (Link Popularity / Link Saturation)
Yahoo (Link Popularity / Link Saturation)
Overture (Term & Domains) in all known Overture servers

There is an automated domain appraisal feature which we can even change the formula is uses to value each domain.

Domain Alerts ensure that you never miss an important auction, renewal or domain event. Alerts are set by date and the user may also specify alert actions such as sound or pop-up.

Separated Scan and Watch Windows keep your important domains in a separate watch list so that you can monitor them constantly while allowing you to scan raw lists in the Scan window.

Overture Digger allows for deep scanning of Overture based on domains generated from Overture keyword results. This extremely powerful feature can be used to find available domains in various TLDs with high Overture scores.

Search Engine Digger extracts domain and rank information based on a supplied set of keywords. This powerful feature can be used to find patterns between various domains, rankings and keywords.

File Splitter feature allows for splitting of extremely large files, such as zone files, into smaller files supported by D.R.T. This allows for scanning of complete zone files or certain domains within the zone matching the user's filter settings.

Integrated Whois Search compatible with over 100 whois servers allows for checking of whois for virtually any domain.

Integrated Domain Lists including expired, expiring, registrar-hold and redemption period allow the user to quickly download and scan daily updated drop lists.

One Click Export allows for exporting your scan or watch list into Excel, HTML, XML or text.

This should all be enough to keep you busy for a while :)

Minimising the software puts in into the toolbar by the clock as an icon, making it very unobtrusive when you want to scan in the background and get on with other things, unlike some other DN applications that clog up your Windows Toolbar.

We are in touch with the software developer who has kindly joined the Acorn Domains forum to answer any questions. We have asked for a couple of enhancements:

Availability: Registered Domains show as "Not Available" - it would be better if they showed "Suspended" or "Registered"

Expiration Date: This uses US Date format and can give incorrect number of days. We have asked for a fix on this.

The software has been updated already to take into account the recent Nominet whois format changes.

Finally, we have negotiated a discount for AcornDomains forum members from the usual $249.99 retail price:

Cheers admin! Have downloaded the demo and will be testing. :)

A little tip for you.

One nice feature of this software is that it will display where a particular domain is parked.

To add support for Name Drive parking.

Go to c:\program files\domain research tool\app files

find and open "Sponsors.txt"

go to the end of the file and add:

<frame title='http://www.ndparking.com/==NameDrive Parked

You will then see results like this:

Useful if you want to check your own portfolio and remind yourself where your names are parked :)

I am the author of the software.

If anyone has any questions, comments or feature suggestions feel free to PM me or shoot me an e-mail to [email protected].

Thanks and enjoy the new tool!

This looks nice. Does anyone know if the whois connection can be changed in the application to query the DAC instead of the regular whois??

Thanks, Grant

has anyone tried this ?? and is it worth it.....

I like it as it brings a lot of features together under one system, although I still find myself using DNA Pro to run my daily WHOIS checks. I will use it more once they add the registration status to the results so that you can see what is regged and what is suspended.

Try the demo, it works for 10 domains at a time which is enough to get a feel for it.

At this time the whois server cannot be changed. This is because different whois servers return data in different formats, and since D.R.T. supports over 100 TLDs and whois servers, this would create many problems.

If you can provide me with information on querying the DAC I will surely look into it.

Also, the status information will be available in the next release, following Christmas.

Post more questions in this thread or PM me.

Happy Holidays to all!
Luc L.
