According to a Securities & Exchange Commission quarterly report filing (10-Q), the ETF.com domain name and website were sold earlier this year for $12.6 million. The deal was originally announced in a press release in March, although the price was not revealed until this recent filing. As you probably know, ETF is an acronym for “exchange traded fund,” and ETF.com has been an active website. The buyer of the domain name and website is Bats Global Markets, a publicly traded company. Misleading headlines like this do not help the industry. The domain didn't sell for $12.6m - the business did that just happened to include the domain. From that report it would appear to be only 4 years x the revenue. These are the kind of headlines that lead people to register bad domains and then use the logic to try and justify high prices. 'Ebay is worth millions and the domain is meaningless therefore my domain a928323sado12.com is also worth millions'.
 
Indeed RobM, even before I clicked on the header - I thought Yep what was the business behind it.
And as you mentioned - for them from overseas ( or just a grasp of English) the UK market must look underexposed. Some of the worse must be happening to those that through good/bad luck have achieved one early-on domain Sale. And then think they know the Market
