Hi all,

Any idea what ballpark figure you reckon these would go for as a job lot?

antigua[dot]me
majorca[dot]me
tenerife[dot]me
lanzarote[dot]me
sicily[dot]me
sardinia[dot]me

Thanks folks.

tbh on .me I would say nothing. you won't sell them on here.

Sorry mate but that's my opinion :-|

These are nice geo domains with lots and lots of potential. The .me extension works well and, obviously, these domains would be great for building tourist sites for these areas. - see, for example,

http://poplarbluff.missouri.me/
http://farmington.missouri.me/

As to price, its a tough one because its a relatively new extension. Valuation is less than a .com, but more than a .net.

Two uk country code domains - Majorca and Tenerife - were sold for a substantial five figure sum. http://www.pfft.co.uk/2010/03/creating-tenerife-co-uk/#more-373 I think that these domains are worth 5 figures each (£ s). However, this might not be the best place to sell them and selling them together reduces the amount you can expect, substantially.

5 figures on .me and .me worth more than .net

Shows how other members views vary, ah well :|

...because its easier to build a brand around a geo .me than a geo .net, in my opinion.

I disagree, but I think I know what you mean.. often people will type .com instead of .net, and the .com will be stealing a large portion of traffic whereas it is less likely that they will type .com instead of .me?

How do you figure that ?

Leakage is leakage :(

I'm a broken record on this subject but IMO (based on anecdotal evidence) this is simply not the case.

The number of people who type in a full domain name rather than use Google/Bing to search is minimal.

The number of people who type in a domain and type in the wrong extension to that domain is a tiny percentage of an already tiny number.

It's a myth that .com's steal a large portion of traffic from other extensions.

If anything, in the UK, if someone was trying to remember a domain name they're more likely to try .co.uk first and similarly if it were me I'd be more inclined to try .me.uk ahead of .me; I don't think I've ever seen a .me in the SERPS but have seen plenty of .me.uk's just lately.

I agree. Intuitively I think its true to say that there is significant leakage from a geo .net (and .me) to .com, and possibly leakage to .co.uk depending on the domain.

The reason for my valuation is this.

Dot .net has little penetration in most peoples consciousness. So I consider a geo .net to be little better than a brandable, which is what a geo .me is.

Bruce Marler mentioned the power of geo .me when he talked about his development of Oklahoma.me and Missouri.me in this interview on Webmaster radio, last year...
http://www2.webmasterradio.fm/domain-masters/2009/geo-domains-and-dotme/

It was interesting because he talked about how he turned the .me extension from a liability to an asset. He did this by marketing the 'me' bit as well i.e saying this site is the site for you and me, 'it belongs to me', 'its 'my' site for finding out whats on' etc, etc. Its just quirky marketing, but it works. By comparison what does a .net geo say? It says 'couldnt afford the .com'!!!

Really appreciate the commentary on this thread. Very interesting. Perhaps my .me's are worth some decent money afterall...

Out of interest, are there any decent post-hype, recent .me geo domain sales on record ?

I held a few similar names with very high exact matches, I let them lapse as I didn't get a sniff of an offer.

I was tempted by numerous offers showing on a certain .me marketplace - it was only after further research I found that the owner was actually putting offers against his own names ! ! I challenged him on this, but to no reply.

Now the sales hype has died down, and the best hacks have been funnelled onto the marketplace (buy.me etc.), is there much resale value in .me geo domains ? ?

Or are they only worth anything as development projects, or if you live in Montenegro ? !

The market seems somewhat dilluted with endless, meaningless extensions and an apparent lack of real interest for these, apart from by speculators ! ...

Cheers.

I own scotland, glasgow and edinburgh dot me and have had a few offers of low\mid £££ for each which I think is fair until they are developed but I'm not interested in selling.

.me is an unknown entity and will be for years until there are some well developed sites kicking about.

I will get round to developing soon and if big G likes it then I it should be worth more than I have been offered.

SEOconsult.me > seems abit counter productive, what would they know about SEO if they're using a .me ?

I wonder if they advice their clients to use .me domains, seems a bit daft :?

Very interesting stuff.

Scotland is certainly a powerful domain even with a somewhat obscure extension.

I know the likes of Godaddy/sedo were promoting dot me domains really hard last year, with the 'exclusive' auctions.

Many sales in 2010 ??

I have OnlineBookings dot me, which I thought was quite good.

Nothing so far ....

Some .me sales reported in DNJournal this week......

Trade.me $18,501
Map.me $14,500.
Join.me at $45,000
http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm
But this thread is about geos. Dot Me s, are one of the few ccTLD extensions that go particularly well with geos (.tv is the other).

Wow, join.me - very nice. So commercial and versatile.

The hacks certainly sell well. I'd like to see some decent geo sales to be convinced re. resale values.

No big geo sales in namealot's list.. (ok Bangalore, Panama City etc. but very small sales)

Oh well, only time will tell re. geos. But with more and more extensions appearing I do wonder, even with dot me's personal connotations...

I have zakynthos.me - 20 quid anyone ? Please form an orderly queue...

***Just read about Paris.me, but yes, could have been Paris Hilton, and if not it does seem a one off !

Apologies, that will teach me for reading a thread the wrong way round !

I just read your comments regarding Majorca and Tenerife, RSK3000.

five figures for .me geos ?

So it seems there's been the odd decent geo sale then.

Only time will tell for sure though regarding the extension...

ps. Zakynthos.me is still for sale :)
