Not being nosey but what can one expect to earn as a part time
affiliate ,realistically ?. Tens or Hundreds ,or even thousands ?.

Part time affiliates earn very little.

Full time affiliates earn a lot of money.

Depending on which market you choose the potential for affiliate earnings is immense, I know people that make several k per day.

The easiest way to start is to make a site based around high paying google adsense keywords. For example "personal accident claim" is currently around £15 per click. Once you get the hang of building a site and building traffic to it then you can start to explore other ways of earning affiliate revenue.

Please, bear in mind that these sort of figures, whilst surely attainable, are built up over a number of years.

It's more reasonable to expect to make £200 per month as an average over your first year. If you go with that figure then anything else is a bonus.

The key to affiliate success is being able to suss what are the "converting" keywords as opposed to just gaining traffic willy nilly.

For example: If you knew that "link exchange software" was a converting keyword then you could bid on it at google and point the ad to a popular link exchange software product which pays over $120 in commission per purchase.

If you knew that 1/60 surfers convert you can work out how much you need to spend on ad's to make x amount.

This is traffic brokerage and it's just one way affiliates make money.

On the surface it appears to be "easy money" but in reality there is a lot of knowledge gained over several years being brought into play to make it work.

Is there somewhere to look up Google's bid per click per keyword or is it down to experience?

I know with Mirago they let you search by keyword and it will return approximate PPC values.

There is no way to pin down your exact CPC with google as their model works differently. They work their model on supply and demand and also how well an 'ad performs.

Once you have a few days data then you can get an "average" CPC but there is no true way of knowing exactly what you paid per click.

Generally speaking a PPC campaign on google will cost a lot more than other search engines simply because it reaches a wider audience far more quickly.
