I have a few wireless cameras set up around my home and wanted to start start saving the video stream offsite for 48hr/72hrs before it is deleted.

Anyone use such a service?

Undergoing a project here to do something similar. I was advised to buy a more traditional system with IP capabilities instead of individual IP cameras as you get more for your money and better quality. So I went with the Securix SMC4.

Not fully installed yet but will report back when it is!

BTW - I also have a geocaching site built a while back.... www.cachingbox.com

I used to use a Dlink camera and that was setup to send images or video to my server via ftp.

Advantage was you could store many Gb if you wished.

That looks like a great system Matt. If you don't mind sharing, how much did that set up cost?

I like your GC site. A lot cleaner that mine (that I have to fiddle with inbetween changing nappies and feeding our newborn ) - Are you still keeping it updated? Do you cache yourself?

Do you store (i.e. "record") the video anywhere locally already? If you do, how about copying it to remote storage from that?

No, I am currently only catching single images emailed to me by the camera when something sets off the motion detection.

I started with a 2 camera system to see if I liked it (can add 2 more if I need). New from Ebay at £225. I have an electrician friend popping round at some point to help me do some neater cabling then I'll report back on what it is like. The build quality / stuff in the box seems nice though - nicer than Cisco/yCam cameras I've had in the past.

Outsourced all of the build of the Geocaching site and have neglected it a bit. Its on that never ending to do list to spruce up a bit

If so, does it not recognise the camera?

I use 4 cheap foscam IP camera's all controlled using software called BlueIris. The software is, in my opinion outstanding. Runs on a cheap £100 Dell from ebay. For backup purposes, all I've done is set the Blueiris software to save all video capture to a folder mapped to Skydrive folder which syncs automatically.

No, I don't think it does. I'm also anal about the time I leave my NAS running for. Im a 'switch on, stream movie, switch off' kinda person.

Thats the set up I currently have. Whilst the image quality is clearly not ideal, they suit the purpose I have for them and the motion sensor is great. I will look at that software. I have now found http://www.mangocam.com/index.php which will store all my data for free.
