I have a client who has had trouble registring an italian domain name (.it).

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good registrar. I've noticed a few italians on these forums, so please don't be shy!

I have a .it domain and it is a real pain in the ass to register.... livetodot.com
The problem is the signing off of the LAR, it took me three attempts to get the darn thing soughted...

Ive had the thing 2 years, renewing etc is not a problem

Hi olebean

Was the issue with the LAR due to livetodot.com, or is just the way with Italian domain names in general?

thanks

If i recall correctly, I had to fax the LAR to Italy, they then informed livetodot.com that there was a problem...

Dear Olebean

We are sorry to communicate that the LAR sent to the Italian
RA for the domain moreon.it has been rejected.

This could be for a number of reasons:

* You have not signed the LAR in the 2 specified places
* Someone other than the person named has signed the LAR.
* You are using an LAR other than the one provided by us
* There has been a fax transmission error
* Parts of the fax are illegible

NB: If you have already received an email from Livetodot
saying that the LAR has been approved for this domain you
may safely ignore this email.

Otherwise, please check that the correct person has signed
twice and that your fax machine is working correctly. If
you repeatedly get this meesage you may wish to try a
different fax machine.

It was a real pain, I could read the Italian, I wasn't informed of any specific reason why it failed, the fax worked ok...

Then Finally I got this (without changes I might add)

Dear Ole Bean

This is a quick note from Livetodot to inform you that the
LAR sent to the Italian RA for ******** has been accepted.

Assuming there are no technical complications, the domain
should be registered within a few hours.

NB: Due to DNS propagation, it may take around 24 hours until
the domain is visible to the whole Internet.

Hope that helps

Thanks Ole Bean

That's a big help. Amazing to think some aspects of this game still rely on faxes rather than emails and web forms.

Once the registration request has gone in you've got a window of 2 weeks to fax the LAR.

The last registration we put through was faxed every day for the 2 week period and every day the fax number came back as engaged.

..every day the fax number came back as engaged.
Blimey that sounds stressful.

I have found some registrar companies that act as proxies and register the domain in their name, on your behalf, which might make solve the LAR issue. Also Namesco register .it domain names, though they are pricey.
