Hi,

I am pretty new to the domain name game usually i just deal in software for tablet PC's. SO any advice is much appreciated.

However browsing one day for dmain names came across foodcrisis.co.uk thought this might come in useful for something so I bought it.

Anyone has any ideas on what I can do with it or even what its worth??

Thanks,

How about a website telling how to manage without particular foods, substituting for butter, eggs, etc., as in those old Victory cookbooks from WWII?

maybe a use a is for a site that tells people how to get/find/make food when theres a food crisis e.g. Tesco is empty because the yanks charge to much for oil etc, and now you have to roast the family Cat for sunday lunch - u savvy?
regfee,

start doing some work on it - no one's going to come knocking on your door with a £500k cheque if thats what your wondering..

Hi,

Thanks allie for the suggestion seems quite interesting. My original thought was something to do with the current shortage and increases in food prices OR as an advisory board for getting food cheap.

Julian, thanks for your thoughts never really thought it was a get me rich instantly type of domain. What would you suggest is the quickest way of developing it without compromising on quality?? I am defintely going to be doing this but time is of the essence for me..

appreciate your continuing advice..

Regards,

Do a lot of reading up on domaining before buying too many names, you won't regret doing your homework first.

not a bad 1st domain though. Could be a nice little site. Read around this site for sure though - I'm still learning.

Think to yourself, would the name I’m registering have commercial applications or industry interest.

"Food Crisis" sounds like "not for profit" and an unnatural search sequence of words to me.

I've got a handful of related names (which I won't hijack your thread with), and consider them as slow burners. Food prices and availablilty *will* continue to be an issue, so domains such as this will certainly get traffic.

I would agree that this seems like a charitable or humanitarian domain. It depends what your aims are but it doesn't seem particularly commercial to me.

Of course, rightly or wrongly, charities spend HUGE amounts of money on things other than the charity purposes. This is why there are affiliate schemes for various charities and the top staff have chaffeur driven cars etc. They operate as businesses which happen to give a %age of profits to charity.

Hi,

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and feedback. I think I will want to develop it just a little anyway and see what happens. Most likely along the lines of saving on food costs.

As I am new to the domain thing, one thing I don't understand I read in the forum somewhere that you should Google the name and see how many results you get and also how many PPC adverts there are.

BUT for 2 word domains (e.g. foodcrisis.co.uk) surely google treats this as 1 word ?? so are google results for "food crisis" still relevant for this exercise ??

would love to know the answer to that one..??

regards,

I always start with the phrase in quotes, as that will show the ads directly targetting that phrase. Then go with associated phrases. In your case you will not just write ocntent about "food crisis" you (at a guess) will have things about: "low cost food", "growing your own food", "food prices" etc. All of which will have a potentially different set of advertisers. Then you get onto "food storage" - if there is a food crisis, you might want to stock up.

A better thing to do is open a Google AdWords account (can be done for free) and that will give you access to the Google traffic estimator which gives you PPC rates for a given keyphrase.

Also, look what search volume a keyphrase has, try these:
