Traditionally, most of my sales have been through Sedo although occasionally I have received direct approaches. For me Sedo has been pretty ineffective over the last year so I am looking at alternative sales strategies. We've been doing some direct approaches to end-users but success rates there are quite low - maybe about 10% hit rate for £XXX sales. What methods do you use that work well?

Stephen.

I voted for my own domain portfolio site. All my sales come through there these days.

Why not charge more? That would make the effort more worthwhile. Either a company won't understand the value of an exact-match generic at all (the "Outrageous, domains cost 10 pounds and you're asking me for HOW MUCH?!" type response) or they may be willing to pay a decent amount (low to mid x,xxx) for the benefit of getting the best domain for their business.

Even if that drops your hit rate a bit, you're probably still going to wind up better off...

I don't really sell domains. The idea is reg n dev but as most will relate to the dev pile just increases and end up trimming every so often.

I'm building a non-trader sales portal and will be looking to invest in end user advertising once I have a strategy together.

I think we need to raise the awareness of end users like the car number plate industry where you can by plates of choice from a few quid up to many thousands.

Maybe we should all get behind this...

I think there's a low level of awareness that the domain name you want may be available even if its already registered. People search for a domain, see its registered and then look for an alternative.
