There are some interesting topics on the PAB meeting agenda:

http://www.nic.uk/policy/pab/nextmeeting/

Which are:

6. Variable registration periods
http://www.nic.uk/digitalAssets/17114_070301_Variable_registration.pdf

8. PAB composition sub-committee (PAB Chair's verbal report)

11. Work programme (executive paper)
http://www.nic.uk/digitalAssets/17117_070228_PAB_work_programme.pdf

Which includes:

May 2007
Domaining (1 of 2) - Presentations by (1) a domainer, and (2) a brand owner?
Two letter domains - Members' paper

July 2007
Domaining (2 of 2)

September 2007
Wait list

This is what I sent to [email protected]

Dear PAB,

At the next PAB meeting on 14 March 2007 I would strongly ask the PAB to consider:

1. Only "noting" the feedback from the PAB composition sub-committee:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/policy/pab/nextmeeting/

"8. PAB composition sub-committee (PAB Chair's verbal report)"

And not to come to a "resolution" as suggested in the paper:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/11737_070102_PAB_Composition.pdf

"I have proposed with a view to reaching an agreement at the March meeting".

I think any proposal to reduce the number of elected members should go to a full public/member consultation before going to the board.

Also it will allow newly elected PAB members to submit their own papers on the issue at the next PAB meeting.

2. I notice the proposed work programme for May 2007 has changed from:

"Domaining (1 of 2) - Should Nominet have a policy on domaining/dropcatching?"

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/10599_PAB_work_programme_2006-7.pdf

To this:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/17117_070228_PAB_work_programme.pdf

"Domaining (1 of 2) - Presentations by (1) a domainer, and (2) a brand owner?"

I have to say I don't like the title of this either.

It suggest's Domainer's are all cybersquatters registering brand owners names.

At the DRS event Nominet already had a panel with:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/news/latest/?contentId=3587

Roger Evans - Diageo, a representative of the Intellectual Property (IP) community

Michael Toth - Lively Ltd, a domainer

Let the DRS policy cover this issue and have a public consultation on "domaining".

3. Also on the proposed PAB work programme 2007 is:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/17117_070228_PAB_work_programme.pdf

May 2007 - Two letter domains

As I said in my DRS consultation reply:

If Nominet auctions off two letter .uk domains for charity don’t they become ‘domainers’?
How will Nominet sell trademark names like BP.co.uk FT.co.uk BA.co.uk AA.co.uk?
How will they put a value on names like MK.co.uk 'Milton Keynes’?
Will they let some names go for a lower price like ZQ.co.uk?

You need a full PAB sub-committee on this one.

Also which "charity" will get the money? The same "Welcome trust" as the Nominet surplus?

July 2007 - Domaining (2 of 2)

As this is the only definition of 'domaining': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domaining

What will be the aim of the discussion this time? Dropcatching? Warehousing? Parking Pages?

September 2007 - Wait list

I think the PAB should make it clear this has been discussed before back in 2003:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/3153_SummaryOfWlsConsltapril.pdf

Also I refer back to number (2) where you have removed "dropcatching".

Another full PAB sub-committee needed again here.

Many Thanks,

To go from this:

"Should Nominet have a policy on domaining/dropcatching?"
- which has credibility and substance!

To this:

"Domaining (1 of 2) - Presentations by (1) a domainer, and (2) a brand owner?"
- which is total 'BOLLOCKS'!!!

Shows us how 'pathetic' the PAB is!!!

Which raises a very important question:

WHY THE HELL IS EMILLY TAYLOR WRITING THE PAB AGENDA/WORK PROGRAMME??? :???:

Regards,

Sneezy.

Sneezy,

To be fair the PAB is a Nominet body however....

You were in the room at Domain Channel when Lesley Cowley mentioned "waiting lists" for 2007.

Therefore this has been on the agenda along time even before that Work Programme was proposed.

I just do not like the way "domainers" are being singled out and alienated from other registrants. This is why I posted my email here in the hope others would email the PAB before Wednesday.

Why are they not using titles like:

Should Nominet raise registration fees?
Should Nominet have a registration quota?
Should Nominet vet applications made for .org.uk .me.uk names?
Should Nominet limit the use of the DAC?

And so on..... These policies would affect "domaining" without actually labelling registrants.
