Non bloated anti virus?

Given most home/SME computers are now connected to the Internet, what common sense measures do you think can protect against viruses most of the time? Assume an average users, running Windows.:D

Well I pretty much only use about four/five sites...I can't remember the last time I had a virus, I've got family members with anti virus installed and I spend half my life trying to remove viruses from there computers. I'm either lucky or just know what not to click/download?

I'm not saying don't use an antivirus! I'm saying I don't.

I put family members on Ubuntu more than a year ago ;) Not a single virus / malware / etc. problem so far. I do run SuSe on my laptop and Windows inside a virtual machine if I need it. Simple...

I haven't used an anti-virus for about 8 years, Common sense can serve you pretty well most of the time.

I guess if none of the sites you used are ever compromised, and you install the very latest windows updates you might be okay. Most virus problems are self inflicted. It might be worth having one of the less resources hungry anti virus programs though, just in case..
