OFT closes website

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is taking action against more than a dozen businesses which set up repayment plans for people struggling with debt.

The watchdog says these debt management companies are deliberately misleading consumers by using website addresses similar to non-profit organisations.

Seems fair enough to me...

I think the OFT is correct in this instance - debt causes a great deal of misery and it is wrong for debt management companies to mislead those in debt by using website addresses similar to those of non-profit debt help organisations.

One problem is that .org.uk domain names can be registered by anyone for any purpose. That shouldn't be the case.

Trouble is mate that the people that run these charities for debt ect are on 100k at the top.

So they aren't innocent themselves

They're like the other charities - they show you the poor people starving in Africa but neglect to show the CEO & his chums turning up to work in their Ferraris.
