They really dont like anyone messing with their rights do they!

Shame, I have a stunner of a related name. Wonder if I can find a way around the redtape.

I think it's f-ing ridiculous that a word that has existed for millenia can suddenly be bought lock-stock-and-barrel by mutil national companies, so that no-one else is able to use it. Disgusting.

I was aware that they had rights to 'Olympic' and thought my worldgames domains had got around it.

However I didn't know they had rights to 2012 as well. so out goes worldgames2012 and the variations I have :(

It is a bit of a b*mmer they can own the rights to a number, what will they do with it after 2012?

><((0>

I don't think they can claim legal ownership to a date (2012)... Everyday objects and devices cannot be patented or trademarked, and dates would come under the same law.

Remember the MMX case which Intel lost with AMD? Also, Intel didn't choose 80586 / 586 for the sucessor to the 486, as they discovered that they couldn't trademark a number, so they chose of course Pentium.

I would be interested to follow any cases regards to 2012-related items.
