Hi. I'm looking for .co.uk specific advice. It seems to be difficult generating revenue with a mini-site...it really takes a while to generate traffic, etc. In fact, I'm beginning to think that I'm better off parking and approaching buyers instead of spending time developing...

Any advice?

Have you been following the how to make a domain earn £1 a week thread?

I have to say i favour minisites.

Last Thursday i visited my solicitor regarding purchasing a flat, on friday i regged a domain related to something we discussed and 'developed' a mini-site for it. (About 1 hours work).

I then linked to it from my signature in this forum and another forum i'm an active member at.

On saturday it was in Google's index and ranking well. Since saturday its earn't $6.00 from visitors the search engines bought. It will not get type-in traffic beacause its a .org.uk.

It depends on your domain name, if your happy to settle for type in traffic you could park, but developing offers the extra potential of search engine visitors.

I think you need to define mini site there

A mini site to me is not a development, its a one time quick effort and walk away, takes a bit longer than parking but once its done its a one time deal for me, a few backlinks to get it indexed and it should be able to offer you income while you go looking for buyers.

Sounds crazy not to try...in your experience what is the best way to monetize a minisite? A link-sharing or PPC program? Which ones? Adsense? Thanks!

Be very careful - one page mini sites where the only links away from the page are Google ads are against the Adsense T&C - and you are likely to be found out and banned. Hardly worth it for a few dollars.

Erm, no they are not.

and yes Scott i was talking about a one-off 'development' for a single page mini-site.

I was refering to Jackal there Ash because he said

As far as Adsense goes one page sites with only adsense on them are not against the TOS as long as they have information on them, you don't need to have other external links from my experience.

I agree with the 2 posters above, you do not need external links on any pages/sites running Adsense.

From Google's T&C:

"No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant."

"Made For Adsense" sites are one of the most common reasons for having your account disabled alongside invalid clicks.

Obviously if you think your one page mini-site hasn't been "published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant" you can argue the case with Google if and when a problem arises.

Correct MFA is not allowed that is why in my post on the £1 a week thread I suggest using good content even if that only totals one page, MFA does not = Mini Site.

Good content/ Handy Tools & Calculators are what count as mini sites can be monetised using Adsense, a mini site using good content is made to get long tail search terms, Adsense is then a tool to monetise that traffic.

Spot on. If your not sure you can always check with Google, they are very open and responsive in my opinion.

For example, i am allowed adsense on www.greyhoundracing.org.uk , yet their policies say no gambling or casino content, i checked with them and they confirmed that as my site does not promoted gambling or casinos google ads on the site are okay.

My definition of adsense would be a scraper site or duplicate content site etc.

I know MFA doesn't equal mini-site. I use mini-sites myself.

But advising people to make MFAs - whether one page mini-sites or countless page directories - isn't a good idea IMHO (I'm not saying you are advising people to do this either).

Is'nt that a little contradictory? You know that a mini-site does'nt = MFA, yet your suggesting people are encouraging others to create minisites which are MFA!

I think the key question one should ask about a site, does this site benefit the visitor?

Why are you confused? Not all mini-sites are MFA, but some obviously are. Surely that's easy enough to understand.

If your sites are not MFA sites you have nothing to worry about.
