Hi

I've just joined the site and I'd welcome your advice. I have a site www.ukpetbreeders.co.uk which I bought last year and completely redesigned added a blog etc etc, it now has pr2 (hooray!) but I would welcome advice on how to sell it and the value it might reach. It is only a hobby and I have not really marketed it but I know pets are popular and I think the domain name is a good one. I've registered the name for 2 more years as I know Google 'likes' this.

Thank you very much.

Update: I have just bought the .co.uk domain name and as soon as it is Ok will point it at the dot com one. Thanks for the tip.

If you can prove your site is a revenue generator, with stats and statements, you will achieve a better sale. If something is making sales, it's valuable. If you aren't making sales, then develop it a bit more. There are plenty of pet programmes on UK affiliate marketing networks, you can join them here:

If you can start generating revenue with the above, you might decide to keep it.

Also, work on your search engine position, SEO tips here:

I have a screen shot of the stats but I can't attach it. There were 1037 unique visitors and 31718 hits last month. I have affiliate programmes in place for pet insurance and also have adwords, but at the moment am not making much as I'm not promoting it as I haven't got the time. I would really like to know what it is worth as it stands.

There are a number of posts on this forum about how to value a website, but as with valuing any business, they will look at the website revenue being generated and value the business on an earnings multiple. If your site isn't earning much at the moment, then it's not that valuable. Someone will only buy the site off you if you can show that you are generating decent earnings, otherwise they will just create a similar site from scratch themselves, which as we all know isn't that difficult to do.

Thank you, that is very sound advice and I appreciate it.

I will continue to work on the site and see what happens. I am actually a professional writer and do know about SEO so I should be able to do it.

I did have the impression that an established, professionally designed site on a popular subject with inbound links, a Google PR2 and a good dotcom name containing searched-for keywords actually had an intrinsic value apart from revenue, but maybe I was wrong!

Anyway, I'll look on it as a challenge!
