More than a million households in the UK could have had their computer hijacked by criminals without even knowing it, according to the findings of a new study.

The research by a team of Dutch experts suggests that many more computers than expected could have fallen victim to the spread of criminal networks called botnets, which can send spam, attack websites, or collect bank details.
