Ridiculous asking prices!

No but you could offer actual facts of the name and prices as an example of unreasonable price expectations, by either buyer or seller.

Read back to my post you quoted above (Its on page 1, and #6). Tell me where I mention 'Unreasonable Price Expections', as I can't see where I did, thats the OPs thought. My thought were on sellers who won't budge on price, at all. As I said:

I have screen shots of domains I have made offers on, using Sedo. Seller comes back with a price and I counter. Seller comes back with same price. I counter, again, seller won't move and comes back at same price.

So give an actual example of a name where the seller would not budge on price.

The name
the price you offered and
the price he asked.

Why? Is my word that it happens not enough? Want to replicate it? Want to try to get domain cheaper? Don't like being proved wrong? I don't know what you are trying to achieve.

And you still haven't answered my question....

I just think it helps with the whole subject of domain buying and selling and pricing of domains if when people give examples, they identify the subject name so that people can form an educated opinion.

I notice on most occasions the people offering the examples won't offer the actual facts including the name involved.

You, and some other thread contributors, seem to believe that the registrant of the .com sets the price for the matching domain name in other extensions. That is flawed logic.

Bingo! Thread win.

As always some people believe they are entitled to a domain for what they are willing to pay. Life is not like that.

It would be nice though!

I was offered 2 figures on a domain I sold for 5 figures (with abuse from purchaser). The sad fact is either a) you can afford it and buy it or b) move on.

Quite how the seller is to blame for buyer actions or anger is beyond me.

What was the NAME ????

What was the NAME ????

Sorry, I'm a bit reluctant to share it as, well, it's my surname and I enjoy my privacy.

However, I'll give another example which is less dramatic but maybe you guys can help me.

I was interested in buying policy.org.uk off a guy on sedo for a work project. I had a look at the going rate for this extension and saw that I could buy research.org.uk on sedo for 299 quid plus a few other "good" names for the same or less.

So I put in an offer of 200, thinking I might move to 300. However, the guy comes back with counter of 800. I haven't countered yet, but not sure if it's worth the effort given we're a fair bit apart. The domain isn't essential either.

But I guess from my perspective, this guy has essentially just bet 200 quid of real money on being able to get 800. A bet he may well have lost.

I think the reason you will not disclose the name is because it's a fictitious situation, simple as that.

Why would he invent it? Lots of people won't mention names they're interested in, perhaps because they don't want to prejudice any future negotiations. We don't need to know because it doesn't change the fundamentals.

Your view not mine.
I won't offer any further opinion unless I know the situation actually occurred.
It's difficult enough valuing domains when all the facts are actual, without some new member coming on the forum and setting a conundrum around such a sensitive and subjective issue.

Happens all the time. I just accept it and reply generally. Whether it actually happened or not is immaterial because I can't possibly ever know if a member is telling the truth or inventing things, even if they tell me the domain name(s) at issue. It's the usual pattern of how threads like this will always end up. There is never going to be any "resolution" :)

But there is more chance If the facts are actual and known.

I like to be helpful, but fictitious situations are only taking the p*ss.
Probably why not so many people contribute to the forum of late.

I agree but I am not sure you give any more details than this in your threads - see here for instance - http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/sedo/130099-curiouser-curiouser-3.html#post508840

Nobody accused you of not being truthful in that thread.

Nobody asked the name because it wasn't important to the issue, or they simply didn't care. Besides the subject was not as sensitive to this forum as name valuations. Had anyone asked for details I would have provided the same.

Bloody hell. Looks like someone's a bit sensitive. I'm hardly the only one that thinks this is common.

Why the hell would I make this up? What have I got to gain from it?

PM me the name. In total confidence.
If I'm wrong I will say so.

I doubt it was made up; we all know this is a common trait within the industry, which is fine, buyers prerogative and all that!
