This week Sedo has launched a new tool called the "Domain Value Indicator" - a bit of a strange name seeing as it does not actually give any monetary value to the domain.

To see the tool, go to any Sedo sales page and click on "View Domain Value Indicators"

The variables include:

  • Global monthly searches (Global Exact matches for the Keyword) plus a percentage on other domains listed at Sedo.

  • Regional monthly searches (Local Exact matches for the Keyword)

  • Estimated cost per click on Google (noting that higher CPC values should mean a higher value domain)

  • The Year the .COM variant was registered (the logic being the earlier the .COM was registered the more valuable the domain is)

  • The Year the .NET variant was registered (the logic being the earlier the .NET was registered the more valuable the domain is)

  • Percentage of other popular domain extensions registered

  • Is it an IDN or not? (Yes / No)

What do you think of their valuation logic? Seems weird to me it doesn't actually consolidate all the answers to give you summary valuation plus the view on .COM and .NET being registered long ago adds a lot of value is very American.

All the things sedo 'introduce only favour the buyer. I have had over $10,000 of sales backed out after several months when I'm selling and the 'buyers' are *STILL* buying. Their commission is appalling, their sales team is weak and with no backbone. For a company that paid me lots of money since I first joined them I now wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. My last sale was for about 1000gbp out of which they took about 200. Nuff said.

lol

just another 'tool' from a bunch of tools

this is just something bs buyers will use to try and justify lowballs, like estibot etc

sedo is just not an option when selling domains, nor is afternic etc

buyers come from my landing pages or come through whois
or sometimes buy straight off godaddy premium listings

endusers pay my price or close or bye bye

If they gave a monetary valuation, that would mean people wouldn't have to pay them up to $49 for their appraisal service :)

And it would also include more people quoting idiotic valuations thrown up by another unreliable automated tool (there are NO reliable automated tools)

Seems weird to me too. It said the .net version of a .com had been registered in 2012 but it had not - it is free.

You can give them feedback on that new valuation tool here

The tool is ok as far as it goes. Is there a Sedo presence on the forum still - would be good to get a bit more info about the thinking surrounding the tool?

Stephen.

This tool .. added without consultation with the vendors "me and you" .. adds no value to the selling process unless you are offering an ultra premium domain .. i have a good number of domains that go straight to a Sedo for sale page by-passing the el crappo PPC lander .. the viewer gets to see the stats on the for sale page if they click on stats i dont want the New! Core statistics: .. Sedo should give vendors the option to include or not include the New! Core statistics: .. i have abandonded Sedo PPC (for the most part) for a long time .. i will now set about taking down the direct link for sale pages unless Sedo has a change of direction and gives me the option to use or not use the New! Core statistics:

Another bad automated price estimation tool. Together with the new 15%-20% sedo fee and their bad sales team they make a very good reason to stop listings at sedo and sell all my domains direct. 10% was not bad for a piece of mind service where you can push the domain to sedo and then don't worry what happens.
Bad it seems that sedo wants to drive all the sellers away.

With all the variables with just.com on its own not even counting other tld or cctlds or new tld’s or that there is not enough reliable information around with thousands going unrecorded and even ones that are not happening... Why write a tool for predicting domains when ones for predicting commodities, futures, share prices etc with less variations more reliable information available offering enormous financial return why would you even bother?

Even if you did and its accurate still doesn’t mean you’ll get a buyer its not going to benefit humanity either just a few domainers think it will be years off if ever
