Should only experienced domainers sell here? I would like to try it but so far have only done Ebay sales. Thanks for any advice.
in reality a domain is only worth as much as a buyer is prepared to pay.
Not quite, a domain is worth what a seller is willing to sell it for![]()

Yeah, ive noticed on sedo when ive enquired about a domain and offered a fair price of say £1000 they wont accept anything less than 5 times that amount.
The thing is with sedo people park their domains their to make a large profit and many domain owners often over value their own domains, when in reality a domain is only worth as much as a buyer is prepared to pay.

Yeah, I know what you both mean, maybe I should have worded it better, when I said what a seller is willing to sell it for, I meant in the sense that his price is a realistic market value, and not one of those people who become emotionally attached to their domain name, and wont let it go for a penny less than their x times the market value of it.
It works both ways, how many times have you read on here and elsewhere about someone selling a decent name, and then getting ridiculously lowball offers for them, there are some crazy sellers out there, also some crazy buyers, swings and roundabout ain't it.
Fair comments, there are examples to suit both sides of the arguement.
If some new PC interface were invented for all future plugins, let's say 'UTB', then utbdevices.com might be worth a fortune if you were flogging and/or making them, with mass market potential with high competition. Whereas if you were one of just a couple of companies manufacturing specialist equipment to a small or closed market, let's say spacesuits, then spacesuits.com isn't going to be that critical to your business, which probably explains why David Clark or ILC Dover don't need to fight to get that name, its too specialsed to actually add any real value to their businesses.
Yeah if someone who is rich owns the domain then they wont sell unless its for a high figure probably.
Im pretty new to domain names, do you guys think if you bought 100 pretty decent domain names now for their registration fee and then kept them for say 10 years. Do you think you would make a lot of money, I would expect them to beat the interest you would make in a bank anyway. But you can never tell whats going to happen in the future, even with domain name values.
Im pretty sure that there a lot of well off people in the world who must be investing in thousands of domain names for the long term.
What do you think?

Then again, in twenty years time, spacesuits may well be very much in demand... and every bugger making and needing them as let's face it, a lot of us have to get off of this planet quick and get out there.
