hi all.
I don't know if I can word this right but here goes.

When buying a domain with a view to developement and SEO, does Google give the same weight to .me's and other extentions which don't appear to be specifically for business, as they do for .com's and co.uk's?

Thanks in advance if you can advise.

Dave

No. .me's don't get the same level of uplift as .com, net, org, co.uk or org.uk.

To further Peter's answer, if you are specifically targeting google.co.uk then it is best to stick to a .uk domain

Firstly, thanks Peter-w and Bensd

Sorry to be thick but does that mean that even if I have the .com and the co.uk , I should still develope the .uk if I'm aiming at the UK market ?

Dave. Popupbloke.

If you're targeting the Uk market only develop the .co.uk and forward the .com to it

Thanks Bensd,
I was just looking at domain names for a niche I have my eye on for my first site, I plan to make a kind of self-help site and place a few amazon products on there, but looking at the number of exacts for different locations (74k usa verses 18k for the uk) I'm wondering if I should go for the .com and try to sell to the americans instead.
(wonder if I can just put amazon-US ads on there?)

Any advice from anyone would be gratfully recieved.

Thanks
Dave.

Why not develop them separately? Use the .com for the US and .co.uk for the UK?

The US searches normally always have higher volume.

As Ashton has said above, you could develop them both and use the .co.uk for the UK market and .com for US/global market.

As it's your first site and your based in the UK, I would grab both domains focus on the .co.uk and see how you get on

I'll start with the UK then as you advise.

You can more or less SEO any TLD, even a .me

The reason you do not see so many ranking well is the investment people put into the website to get it to rank.

If you want to make a brand of it then a .me doesn't look right. You would also increase click through rate and direct type-ins having a more popular extension.
