serif or wordpress

Good evening all,
Just looking at heart internet hosting. They offer a free wysiwyg program, Serif WebPlus X4 Full Version.
I was planning on using/learning wordpress.
Can anyone tell me which is the best of these two softwares to make affiliate sites and why?

Well, I haven't heard of Serif WebPlus X4 before, but WordPress is hugely popular, and that means it's easy to get help from others. I would say go for WordPress, as it's reasonably easy to get going with, and very customisable. I have a shopping blog which uses it, and I've been pleased with it so far. As long as you do regular backups, you'll be ok. I have found the online WordPress updates to work well so far.

Ultimately though, success is more about your content and marketing skills than the tech platform you use, although the tech should not get in the way.

Serif creates web pages, WP is a content framework application. They are 2 different beasts.

In my opinion, unless you have very small requirements, you need some form of content framework (WP, Drupal, Joomla or homebrew). You design the theme for the framework and then you can focus on site content and can quickly add / modify the content from anywhere.

Something like serif is very good to play with or produce static sites.

If you use a tool like Serif, you are (usually) limited to using the tool to create additional pages so you'll need to have your PC / Laptop at hand.

Each has a benefit, you need to think about how you want to design & manage your site.

Also note: Serif release the old versions of their programs for free, to get the latest versions & features you 'll need to buy the upgrade (still quite reasonably priced though!)
