Country names sell very well in top extensions, so what do you think of Turkey.me.uk? The added benefit is that Turkey is the up and coming package holiday destination, so affiliate opportunities would be healthy.

Thoughts please guys.

Thanks

There's certainly potential there, though I feel that .me.uk extentions are still a bit off putting for many. If you got it ranking well for the term (could be difficult), that would likely create significant interest.

If there is decent value in the name alone, I feel that it's something that won't be fully realised for a few years yet (as was the case with .org.uk names).

The difference here though is .org.uk's get an exact match bonus - .me.uk don't, and almost likely never will.

I might be in the minority here but I think any domains like .me.uk and other weird extensions are only going to get less valuable as time goes on. If I was holding any (I'm not) I'd be looking to liquidate them, or develop them so that any value was tied to what I put on it, rather than the raw domain alone.

It may be partly that people are much less comfortable with linking to or visiting .me.uk domains. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the idea that there is absolutely no benefit at all of .me.uk domains being exact match.

They definitely don't get an exact match benefit in Google, but they will get an indirect benefit from it because it will sway how people link to your site. For example, payday-loans.co.uk has a dash in it so no exact match bonus, but if you check the BOTW and Yahoo dir listings, both have the required anchor text of "payday loans" when no other competitors have it ;)

Sorry, I'm going to hijack the thread with a really stupid question and ask what an exact match bonus is?

Google will give sites a boost in the rankings if the search phrase matches exactly with the domain, and is on a .co.uk, .org.uk, .com, .net or .org extension.

So searching for "Turkey Holidays", Turkeyholidays.co.uk would get the benefit. Turkey-holidays.co.uk (ruled out by hyphen) and TurkeyHolidays.biz (ruled out by domain extension) wouldn't.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought Google viewed hyphens as spaces anyway though?

I have yet to prove that .me.uk can rank well, but it's something I hope to do in time because I have a few .me.uk sites. What I like about this particular domain is that the url will look good when seen in the search results.

Rgds

.

I really think the situation is as cut and dry as that, especially concerning your hyphen comments. Anyway, that's for another thread. Toodlepip!

Is it a proven fact that me.uk domains don't have the exact match domain bonus for G ranking? Or is it an assumption?

I'd say its generally accepted that that is the case. Does anyone feel that it is wrong?
