Long-expected preparations by Facebook to become a public company have received widespread coverage this week, so what does this mean for users of the site?

At this stage, there probably won’t be much difference. The social network is likely to continue evolving the way it looks and feels, for example the extended roll-out of their Timeline format announced last week.

In the future though, the changes could become increasingly important as Facebook comes under pressure from their new investors to show increases in growth and profitability.
