I caught a domain about 4 weeks ago, and have now developed a site on it. When I develop a site, I set the email as a catch all, as I find it easier to work that way. In the past few weeks, I've had a few emails intended for the old owners, which have just been deleted. However, at the weekend I received loads for the old owners. This includes:

Personal and business Facebook notifications.
Twitter account emails (multiple accounts).
Pinterest stuff.
PayPal notifications (both received and sent)
eBay notifications (both sold and purchased)

Notifications from various WP blogs that they also own.
Updates, stats and notifications from various affiliate companies.

I just deleted them all. But what would you do? Would you try to contact the previous owner, and explain that they need to change their emails, or just delete them as they come through? Maybe something else?

If you caught the domain 4 weeks ago and it was suspended prior to that, they have not had these email working for at least 2 or 3 months.

I think two questions will answer your own question -

Why did you set the email to catch all, instead of using specific addresses?

What would you hope to gain from contacting the owner?

If you knew the stuff I'm getting after catching so many expired domains... best is to disable catchall because this will draw a lot of spam. As for the usual mailboxes like info sales support etc they will probably always get a lot of automated mails. The unsubscribe links when present may provide some relief.
