What's a fair % to charge for providing the lead on a successful sale?

2% - 5% - 10% - 20% - Other %...

Also what's a fair minimum commission...

Input appreciated.

If someone were to find a buyer & negotiate a sale on my behalf, I'm always happy to pay 20% on sales upto £10k and 10% therafter.

We paid around 10% commission on sales for a year, all leads provided. The agent received a five figure income.

Generating leads and sales is more like hard work. I'd say 20% is nearer the mark for someone with experience and motivation.

What makes this tricky is achieving a price which both parties accept as a good deal, and this is rarely going to be "top dollar".

Good points raised too.. Thanks for the feedback...

Any others, trying to get a feel of what is / is not considerable....

Pointers / opinions etc welcomed... May well be of use to all...

The original post regarded a commission on a successful sales lead. I would suggest that a nice dinner is warranted at minimum.

In respect to a full brokerage service to someone who actively markets your names vs. passive order taking - 20% is fair. The most important factor is how much your take home pay will be. Many times 80% take home of a big sale equates to a bigger amount than 90% of a smaller deal.

20%-30% doesn't sound outrageous if the broker is really going after end-user sales via targeted, individual, non-spammy private communications (i.e. not just posting on the same forums/lists you frequent anyway)

That's assuming they're hooking big fish able to pay real end-user prices. If they're selling to domainers and portfolio aggregators, you're not likely to get top dollar.

From what I can see 20ish% appears the going rate everyone would be happy to 'deal' at with the pros.... Exceptions being lager deals...

Thanks for the posts....
