I had the exact same error and it was that I copied and pasted the Amazon API keys wrong (it truncated one of them!)

If you go to Tools > Product Full XML and see if it's contacting the API OK.

that is the maximum you will get.

amazon affiliates is good when selling 'lowish' priced products that people will readily buy online (volume)

high cost items like your ring & anything large like fridges or wardrobes you will be better with other aff schemes where the the commission is better.

Here's a decent tip:

Set up one site selling really cheap items (so that you'll get lots of orders). This will increase the amount of commission that you're getting for your sites that sell more expensive items (like a £600 ring!). The difference between a few % commission on £600 is a good bit so it might be worth it

This is a good tip that I follow myself, but you will never get more than £7 commission for any sale via amazon UK, as this is a commission cap and has nothing to do with a % of sale.

Oh I never knew that. That's fairly bad alright.

I only use the amazon.com version of amazon associates and got $120 for one sale a few months ago (sold a treadmill even though my site sells completely different things! Lol)

From within the admin:

Tools > Change Parameters > Store Settings > Footer Text (last setting)

Change parameter to a 0.
