Most people here know the TAG process inside out, so I am curious how the change is viewed by people who actually use it regularly.

Nominet has confirmed that .UK will move to Transfer Authorisation Codes on 9 February 2027 as part of .UK Standardisation.

Once the new process is live, do you think it will genuinely be simpler for registrants and registrars, or is there anything about the current TAG model you would rather keep?

Is there a summary anywhere of whats actually going to change or be required as a tag holder ? I've had no emails (my own fault... had switched off)

@dee, I had a couple of emails from Nominet about this:

Dear Registrar,

Are you contract compliant?

With .UK Standardisation introducing new agreements and updated policies, now is the time to ask an important question: are you contract compliant?

In this short video, we'll look at the key agreements and policies introduced through .UK Standardisation, highlight some of the most important contractual requirements, and explain what registrars should be doing now to prepare.

Another one gave this link:

Thanks for posting those. There’s definitely a lot more buried in this change than just replacing TAGs with TACs.

Yeah, there's a bit more to it than just the TAC change. Nominet has most of the prep stuff here:
Worth a look if you’ve had their emails switched off.

The tag does two jobs. The transfer is the one going away. The other is that the IPS tag on the record shows who holds the name.

From 9 February 2027 the move is an authorisation code, same idea as a gTLD auth code. A leaked code is a different path from a release done by the registrar that currently holds the name.

It does not change the history of the name, a past DRS, or whether the string looks like a clinic. And it is not the 12 January fee-extension cutoff. That one is the gTLD / .gov.uk software. This one is the .uk transfer, 9 February.
