Following my free submission onto the Yell.com directory for griptape.co.uk I had a chat with one of their sales people about publicising my site further and I wondered what you all thought about it?

Keeping in mind my site is an eCommerce business, not the average affiliate site etc, I was offered the following services for a little over £330 for the year:

- Top of their directory (something that doesn't really bother me as skaters probably wont use Yell.com for their initial enquiries)
- Recommended on their telephone directory enquiries so I'm recommended to perspective customers (again something that probably wont help me much)
- A free SEO site linking to mine (once again something I could build myself and probably wouldnt be useful)
- Inclusion on thier 90 partners sites (may be interesting).

Okay so after the sales pitch I asked lots of questions as basically I know most of the concepts of SEO and feel that for this purpose Yell.com probably wont help me. That said the one thing that stood out for me was the inclusion on their partner sites.

I'm probably not going with the service as I know there are far better ways of improving traffic etc, but given this is an eCommerce business do you feel Yell.com could be of use to me, or is it a waste of money? I'd appreciate your opinions.

Alex

Well I guess you should take a look at some of the partner sites and check whether the page on each would get much traffic, and whether it's a proper straightforward link instead of some kind of redirect

Yell a complete waste of money.... There are plenty of better places to get links, unique content, etc That are far more productive and cost effective (either nothing or very little) They are just one step from extinction....

Thanks for the advice. After checking the partner sites they are irrelevant to my core customer and the package is very expensive for what they are actually offering (e.g. includes a domain for £45). I was just interested to see what people thought and after researching and hearing what you have said I think I’ll give them a miss - to be fair though they were very nice on the phone and answered all my difficult questions.
