From a recent Nominet email:

As a reminder, rights holders have until 06:00 BST (05:00 UTC) on the 25th June 2019 to register their reserved .uk rights. Any unclaimed rights for second level .uk domain names will then expire and will not be available for registration until the 1st July 2019.

The Release Process

A dedicated RoR EPP connection will be available for registrars wishing to register those domains for which rights are released starting on the 1st July 2019. A testbed will be made available in June 2019 for you to test your connection ahead of the release.

A draft of our proposed release plan and a list of remaining unclaimed rights will be made available in May 2019. The finalised release plan and a list of domain names that will become available will be shared on the 26th June ahead of the 1st July 2019 release.

Please Note: Web Domain Manager (WDM) will not support the registrations of release rights during the release period to mitigate potential risk

It doesn't sound to me as if the ror expired domains will just become available for registration (why would there need to a dedicated EPP connection if they were?) sounds like there's going to be another money grab to me.

Have Nominet said anything about the intended release process that I've missed?

agree - sounds very confusing - but then most of the .uk launch has been.

Why haven't they just said these .uk domains will be available to all on 1st July 2019?

is there anyone here who knows what is planned?

The last meeting i attended i was told they wouldnt release all in one go they would have to do this in stages because this wouldnt work so i expect they will do it in stages over several weeks but at the moment they have no idea ......

Let's be honest, we're all wanting to grab us some 2 letter/3 letter .uk's and I bet they're thinking they same, if they released to everyone their servers could probably not handle the load.

I'm wondering why they feel the need for
'a list of domain names that will become available will be shared on the 26th June'
If the domains just become available for registration.
It sounds to me like they're planning similar to the 2 letter release auctions.

Agreed - - Previous 2 letter release treasure chest for Nom. - Bang on the money...

So am i right here: The 'free-to-reg' people will see their very slim chance to grab a wanted name now reduced to no chance whatsoever?

The current planned release certainly favours those with drop-catch systems.
