I bought a QNAP TS 209 Pro II the other day... It quite simply is awesome!!

I was looking for a NAS solution which is obviously more beneficial to those who have more than one PC and want network storage as opposed to USB...

The QNAP goes far futher than any other NAS storage as it is a server in its own right... TwonkyMedia comes preinstalled so I can now stream my music collection and films to my PS3 or Xbox... It also doubles as a print server and hot swap drive bays allowing two drives to run in a RAID one config.

I bought a bluray drive and AnyDVD HD for my PC the other day too so I can rip my HD films to the server. :)

Rich

I'm looking for a NAS myself at the mo I just setup an old poweredge full size box ETAX server with half dozen internal hard drives and 4 USB's and map drives as and when needed via Wifi or Cable. Its less than ideal but 4+ drive nas's are damned expensive when I could just buy a new server unit, throw 2k server ed on it and it works better than any nas would.

Alot of the nas boxes I saw required 3rd party software to be installed on the machines requiring access, I have a 2tb world book sat in its box because you have to install this stupid program on all the machines that need nas access.

Aren't WD doing their 1TB Enclosure for £70 at PC world as well ? (I have 4 of the 500gb ones now) they are solid bits of kit.

My need for storage is due to shooting HD Video and editting it, it eats hard drives like wimpy eats burgers :P

drobo looks nice but you slam 4tb in and get 2.7tb out ? Seems maths isnt a strong suit :P

I'm gonna look more tho into see if its Raid5 compat :)

I'm actually looking at one of them HP Smart Media Servers as an option at the mo.

If you put 4 x 1gb drives, you get 2.7tb yes. But that's down to protecting against drive failure. No pain, no gain!

The point of Drobo is that it's most definitely not RAID. Watch the video on the site with that American tart in it :)

Also if you want it network attached you need to buy a little jobby to sit underneath it, which costs £100ish I think - rip off feckers.
