I have a regular problem atleast once a month with 123-reg.co.uk where tagging caught domains to them they get stuck in limbo as they where previously registered to a customer at 123-reg.

I'm going to insist that my customers avoid using 123-reg in future unless they sign a form on caught.co.uk and understand I can not assist them with problems they have with 123-reg.co.uk. As most of them seem to think its to do with me or I can do something about it.. no idea why.

I also want to recommend alternative registrars. Do daily.co.uk or heartinternet purge their database of expired domains?

Daily are a bit of a nightmare for transfers (once nom trans, they want written posted evidence, which is so 1990 :p), but once a domain expires its removed, even if subsequently caught (least it has on the 2 of my drops that was reregged).

I wouldn't use 123-reg if you was paying ;)

It's utter madness, one of the main reasons I left 123-reg.

Apparently to them it doesn't matter if the domain is in my nominet account or registered in my details under the whois. However, a faxed utility bill with my name and address on it would prove I own the domain...

Have to agree 123-reg are a nightmare for any domain that had a previous 123-reg registrant. They are attempting to sort this by purging domains from accounts 5 days ahead of expiry date. ( a request phone request will get the name reinstated).

ie I reinstated "visualdisplay" only the day prior in a matter of minutes on the phone

But the reality is with 123-reg is the quality of the service depends on who you get to speak to. I wouldn't touch their email support-service it is the worse I've ever encountered. I'm equally looking for a new home for my 500 uk domains

Heart do have some problems with expired domains being in their databases, but it's normally fixed very quickly after raising a support ticket with them.

Thanks, there is no point emailing 123 as they just ignore everything. Ive told my customers to phone them but they never do, but just keep forwarding 123 emails to me when I tell them clearly I can do nothing.

As long as Heart and Daily resolve things via email then thats fine.

On a separate issue I logged into my old 123-reg account yesterday and noticed two names that did not belong to me any more. You cant delete domains from your 123-reg CP so I sent them an email to remove them.

This is the reply I got today...

"Thank you, your domain has been transferred to 123-reg":confused:

123 - old domains added to new accounts

Hi there, I work for 123-reg.

My email address is [email protected], please feel free to email me should you have problems that support are not able to handle.

I have an open bug about the old domains being ordered again issue, that should be resolved shortly, for now I can easily add domains to the right account manually if required by the community, so let me know.

We are working hard to pick up on any old bugs like this and fix them, as well as updating our services and control panel to be more feature rich and manageable. Any feedback you can give will help.

Thanks, Richard.

Thanks Richard Ive forwarded your details to my customer who has two names in limbo with you.

Having someone on the board within 123-reg may go along way to clawing back some of the business.

I currently took my portfolio, the peoples I handled and advise all clients against them, so I can safely say I took 1000's of names away after my issues.

I would have assumed it would be easy to scan a daily list of expired domains, and compare the registered date, if the registered date changes, purge the name AND 123-reg didn't process the rereg then remove it.

Seems simple process to me ?

Edit: I had around 700 names in my account, and 1 name was in someone elses account, I asked them to look at the whois on any of my 100s of names and compare it to the legal registrant of the name in someone else account, and move it, they said "The whois wasn't sufficient to move the name, I needed to send proof of ID". I also registered names and paid for names, which was never registered but in my control panel. Some names was subsequently registered to other 123-reg customers however I still had control over them. Whole situ was a joke.

As said above, support at 123-reg varies greatly depending who you get.

I use caught.co.uk and transfer into 123-reg and know it can be a complete nightmare (I also know it's not your problem aqua!)

I have spoken to some support droids who just do not understand that a domain can be expired and registered somewhere else... many of the staff are in dire need of training.

If only they would purge expired domains! How hard can it be?

I think you have hit the nail on the head there.

Most of the people I have spoken to about domain support - and this goes for the "good" registrars as well - know very little (or certianly less) about domains than I do.

I'm sure the above applys to most members on the forum that have had issues with registrars with poor support

Cheers Steve also does anyone know if daily and heart are ok for referring to international customers.

Had to do a big do not use 123-reg page :)

HeartInternet is good enough for International Clients. I took your advise on that one. Only issue is once you sell a name and transfer it to your Customer the name still keeps on showing in your account and you keep on getting renewal notices. Since there is no provision to manually delete these names from the account a mail has to be sent to them every time.
They are pretty proactive replying to mails.
