If in 1999 with my £15,000 inheritance I'd bought a pc and invested a load in domain names or infrastructure instead of what I did do and buying a pc, a couple of domains and peeing the rest up the wall, would that still have been too late to get a good grasp on the market and make my money ten times over considering £13,500 is only 2250 domains or was it too late even then.

Just wondering.

My domains were bought in 1999 but back then they were bought from a daily mail advert for £25 each

If you had bought the absolute best domains available on reg fee back in 1999 then yes you would be sitting on an extremely valuable portfolio now considering that there were loads of three letters still unregged then.

But then again if you had spent just £1000 back in 92-93 then you would be sitting on even greater fortune (possibly able to retire), so really everything is relative.

If you could turn back time, I know exactly what I would do.

I bought three or four and sold one funnily enough for a few hundred quid, I still didn't realise. I guess if I hadn't have won a contract for what I was already doing anyway, then I would have muddled my way through quicker to find another source of revenue, a shame really as it took the emphasis off what would have been me getting into affiliate marketing and domaining a lot sooner, instead it took me a while to wake up.

When the dot com crash had its devastating effect, I eventually found affiliate marketing and only then when I'd amassed enough, decided to try domains, I of course carried on pee'ing it up the wall, it's only in the recent year or so that I've decided I want to do more than just socialise as that's getting too expensive to do in this country, so I'm going to go abroad and pee it up the wall instead.

Will I ever learn? Yes, is the answer. Just funny how things go sometimes.

And being a landlord before that done me over as well, ah well, live and you live and you live and you learn.

Let's hope that in 2019 domainers are saying "if i bought xnumber of domains back in 2004,5,6 would i be rich"....... hopefully we are underestimating our portfolio's.

I guess it's all relative, I would imagine we all have at least a couple of names that are worth alot of money, but we just don't know it yet!.

You dont need a time machine to pick up a decent name, spend a few days writing a DAC script and get a Nominet membership. Yesterday trips.co.uk and connoisseur.co.uk dropped today you've got victory.co.uk and gameconsoles.co.uk in a few years they should be worth a few quid.

Ok its hard work and a couple of TAGS tend to catch the cream.. but if your not in it you cant win it. Every day is another day less or maybe just 1999 passing you by again.

Yes I make you right, I had a chance of buying into it at a low level, still might be able to, I'll have to see how my luck goes. I'm still in a better position than I was a few years ago but as of yet the only change is assets and finances, still aint abroad and I'm starting to get annoyed now.
