Actually the more I think about it, the more this is true. I am making from those domains that I purchased 4/5 years ago. They did nothing then, but a period later suddenly the traffic and revenue switches on. It really does seem that a domain is more palatable with time. I even bought some shocking names, but a few years later they are generating me good revenue now.

Invest not for now but 5 years down the line.
 
I sort of agree - certainly with good generics and one worders.

But there are exceptions - most obviously technology related ones whereby the technology is part of a constantly advancing area. So 3g.co.uk is great for mobile phones at the moment. But in 10 years there'll be something else and 3g may be forgotten. Same with WAP and GPRS.
