Hi all, I am nearing completing my first affiliate site and was contemplating a disclaimer page and it's content. Does anyone have views on doing this and what to include?
I was assuming I would need something about the fact the links were to 3rd parties and my site has no connection other than as an affiliate. So when they default on their mortgage they can't blame me!

Also is there any guides as to what to include?

cheers :-D

I don't think a disclaimer will benefit you. When someone clicks on a link on your site they travel on to someone elses site and purchase something from them. Their contract is with that company and if there is a recourse it is also with that company. You are not paid by the visitor for the introduction, you are paid by the advertiser for the advert, so the visitor doesn't have a claim on you. If someone arranges a mortgage because of a TV advert and then defaults on that mortgage there is no claim on the TV company.

If you did have a disclaimer how could you prove anyone read it, or agreed to it? You couldn't, unless they had to click an I agree button but then how would you identify them?

I think all your disclaimer will do if read is to say to people that you are getting a commission for advertising and that may put them off.

I am not a lawyer so this is just my opinion... (he says putting a disclaimer in ;) )

and its a fine site too. This is the nicest , most helpful community I have come across. Sometimes its busy and other times not so. However not everyone goes for developing sites with affiliate links. I have a few like this, I make some money from type in domains and I make a little with parking. Others buy and sell domains like its going out of fashion. So sometimes you will post a question and there isn't anyone with an answer around for a while but at other times you post a question and everyone has an opinion...

I haven't seen many affiliate sites with disclaimers and don't think it serves much purpose. Best to keep a site as clutter-free as possible.
