I think it's just because 'alcohol' companies are brand names, so they would have no use for a generic domain.

eCommerce I feel the domain is suited for... However, selling alcohol online is a massive pain in the backside. At least it was when I looked into it a few years ago.

I don't disagree that many would go for brand names. I guess I was looking at it in comparison to what Whisky went for, but then I can understand that can be used in a more niche way.
