Hi

saw a thread a few days ago on htc desire hd phone.

we needed a new phone and the camera appealed so ordered one.

Just been looking online and i see something called Gingerbread, says its android 2.3, the htc has 2.2

Can you upgrade for free as you can with our iphones?

Thanks in advance, plus this bumps the football thread off :D

Yes the upgrade is free but is not out for the dhd yet. That's what I'm waiting for. It's an amazing phone you won't be disappointed. "I'm writing this from mine"

HTC seem to issue updates reasonably regularly, have a fiddle with the settings (can't remember off the top of my head) and you can set it to prompt you when there is an OS update available. Mine's updated 2 or 3 times since I got it in the summer. The upgrade process is simple and is usually done in less than 5 mins. From memory, there was an update a week or 2 ago.

Thanks for the information. I was having a moment where I thought it was like mobiles pre iPhone where you got the software you were given originally.

Really happy now so again thanks.

2.3 isn't out for most mobiles yet, and htc have to synch it with their 'sense' software. Should be out mid-year earliest. The software will update from the phone.

Superb phone, great gps & loads of apps. Even rings ocassionally!

As it is all open source, you could build your own 2.3 custom build if you wanted to :)

However, most wait for the vendor to build & package in a nice simple 1 click update as there's less risk of bricking the phone :)

Not all pre-iphone's were limited :) the very old Orange branded HTC Windows phone I had was also software updated (although not to 6 or 6.5 hence the change to new phone)

does anyone know if its possible to uninstall facebook/twitter from the dhd?

I downloaded an app called uninstaller from the market on my android not the hd though it lets me uninstall anything

iv tried that but no joy, the apps came preinstalled on the phone so i guess they cant be uninstalled without some sort of tech stuff
