I have read that certain companies will register domains for you in their name, thus making them anonymous - the whois details will be in the company name.

Would sites like this be penalised by Google or is this an acceptable practice?

I'm trying to get hold of a domain owner who uses a service like that called 'PrivacyPost' by Dotster....very annoying to say the least.

In terms of Google though, I don't think it would factor into the equation much, if at all.

Timbo they ALWAYS include an email on those listsings like [email protected] which DOES go directly to the admin contact. An account exec at GoDaddy I think it was told me its on of the requirements of such service.

If this isn't the case, the registrar must provide a method of contact.

In the UK (from nom) long as the address is real its ok, and the name/email has legit (they didn't even say you had to have access to mail to that physical address).

In my case, the email bounces back, so that's why it's a bit frustrating.

Contact dotster and tell them, you wish to contact the user.

Yeah did that this morning...the guy on the phone said the only way is to make a WHOIS complaint. So I did....will see what transpires :)
