Hi just was testing the water to see if anyone was interested or had ever

pooled money together to buy a domain ???

comments and thoughts ;)

It would only make sense I think if it was a really top-end domain to be developed into a "full" business, i.e. something which required a very large investment. In that case, it would make the most sense to form a Ltd company just for that purpose, and split the shares according to each investment (e.g. 10 lots of 10% each).

Think most I have ever bought with was 3 guys, it could be done but only with selected people on here.

For example you would have to make public what the domain was and how much it was available to buy at. To get guys involved it would have to be a bit of a bargain as well, so to make public a bargain is always leaving yourself open to being guzumped or bypassed by others.

If you stick with people you know and trust on domains, it could be done.

Would be interested, what price do we have in mind? 100 each, 1k each?

It would be nice to have something with a low barrier so less established members can join in.

Anyway, im up for it, like the idea

and i presume all legally set in stone? as peoples circumstances can change quickly.

.

Oddly enough no - on the long standing agreement which has seen several top end names held in the partnership be based on trust. A rough tot of values probably put it at £100k's worth on a bad day or £250k's worth on a ok day :)

One element of that was if one partner wanted to exit, we took the highest offer and divided it in half then thats the exit price for the other person.

As its over several names it has balanced out, and decent £xx,xxx has changed hands.

No LTD's , written agreements or the like just a virtual handshake and a few calls.

Mutual trust and respect go hand in hand :) Its either there or its not.

nice feed back up to

Ok so let me throw something out there and please modify it etc etc

so the idea would be a group of folks put in between 1-2.5 k each

in the group it would be good to have people who were good at a particular

field lets say seo social media content web designer etc etc

so besides putting money there would be something else of value you can offer

we then purchase a domain and then build it out and after a period of time

sell ,nothing is set in tablets of stone , at the moment , just looking for input

best regards steve

I think it would be a nightmare tbh

2 people fair enough

10 people all involved would just create problems along the way, plus don't forget it would have to a huge payoff / income opportunity to make it worthwhile for 10 people to even consider getting involved, as once they all got their share, it would hardly be worth it - if the site was making £10k a month, thats only £1k each along with all the extra headaches - would I put 100% of my time for a 10% return ? what do you think lol

'Too many cooks' springs to mind

Trouble is mate how do you equally value someones skill. If I spend 4 hours writing content for it, does that equate to someone giving 4 hours of their seo skills?

So what you'll get is people starting to question the value of their input against others input and arguments could develop out of nothing.

Your best bet as Lee and Rob have said is to get together with a small group in the industry who you get on with and whom you trust and discuss it like that.

The other alternative might be for you to buy a name outright and then sell shares in it.

yep

10 would be too many

was thinking along the lines of 2-5 dependant

yes its difficult to judge others but you have to start somewhere

its not a new idea however i have not seen it discussed all that much on here

and yes it would be like starting a small business

agreed the more involved more diluted but also the risk is share and knowledge pooled
also maybe not everyone one has to put in for there skill set as may be to busy but can advise . could be interesting

i have access to taking credit card payments if needed plus other resources

but i am not doing this to punt for business , i just think it would be interesting investing with others here;)

I would be interested, obviously depending on the other members and name/development involved.

Lee - out of curiosity, what type of things do you group buy?

Developing a name is a whole different ballgame and fraught with danger as others have mentioned.

We buy as a group, park as a group and sell as a group. I buy names on a whim and invoice them, likewise they do the same to me.

We have a set price for sale and unless we have an offer that matches that, it's going no where.

Quite a nice little setup you have. Are these people you have met on acorn?

One party is however he is not an active member of the forum. Ive never actually met him face to face.

The other member is someone I used to work with. Again, not seen him for years but it all works well. I treat them as I expect to be treated with regards to trust and its fine. Most people on here will know that im happy to transfer names prior to payment being sent for any names that I sell.

Trust is vital if going down this route.

Yes development is fraught with danger because da da der that's were the highest returns are i am not trying to take the piss lee at all

so get between 2-5 people involved all the money is not for the domain
but also to develop the beast and seo it

worst case we have a domain to sell best case is after 12-18 months or less
we have a domain/website that has transparent traffic figures via
via Google analytics's with earnings displayed, bit like buying a car with full service history

i fancy doing this so lets see who else does please pm me

Best regards Steve

makes for a easier sale
