Prices look very cheap, maybe a little too cheap? Or maybe I'm just suspicious.

£2.45 for .co.uk and .org.uk
£0.50p for .me.uk
.com and .net £1.80

Their hosting looks very cheap as well.

Anyone any experience of them?

Scott

I agree!

I came across them the other day when I was searching for drop catching services....They offer a so-called "backorder" service for co.uk etc for an admin fee of £5 including "free" domain registration.

For this price I assume it cant be a proper catching service but it does seem very odd

No experience at all....

But the prices do look very suspect.... and to have 1 domain priced at £0.50 and then 10 at £2.45 is plain weird... and never going to be a successful business plan...

... if you try to reg a .me.uk there's no option to do so....

.. and maybe it's part of a 'package' or something? .. although I can't find it...

Bit of chat on forums re the reliability of the Australian version... it is connected via whois crazydomains / co / uk

'Too good to be true?'... and 'you get what you pay for' are expressions I'd be thinking....

Yes, just what I was thinking.

Those prices are below cost! If it was me, I'd be concerned with that.

Pricing below cost would always ring alarm bells. You have to consider the price they're charging is not only below the Nominet price for a domain registration, but when you factor in card transaction fees and so on they're making a sizeable loss on each .UK domain registered or renewed.

Perhaps they are getting ready for changes to the drop system. You know - when registrars will be able to take your domains the second you don't renew.

crazy domains

got loads of domains with them several months ago, there an australian company, loads of complaints on online forums, and they charge for dns transfers etc,

i got a bargain as i did a transfer via nom. saved a fortune.

I’ve been using Crazy Domains for my Australian domains for some time with no problems at all. For UK domains they are extremely cheap for initial registration but for me to renew a co.uk for 2 years is AUD38 (GBP24) as my co.uk domains are actually linked to my com.au account with them so I pay Aussie prices for renewals, not sure what the deal is for purely UK customers. If it is the same though, this obviously explains their predatory pricing for initial registrations.

So far I’ve asked them for a TAG change for one domain which they did for free. I was using their services to kite new reg’d domains so will need to transfer out ones that I want to renew before they become subject to a GBP24 renewal fee.

I wouldn’t bother with them for drops, tried it once but I don’t trust their automated system. I’ve tried to register a couple of domains on Friday afternoon (UK time) and nothing has happened until Monday morning Australia time. They say they just have had some problems with their automated system but who knows...

Caveat emptor.

Are you paying GBP 24 just for a co.uk thats bloody high..?

No that's what they want to charge me for renewals but as it's so ridiculously high I will transfer away from Crazy Domains before my domains are up for renewal.

Just noticed that Crazy Domains are doing below cost price co.uk's at the moment - £2 for one year (seems to be inc vat) or £4 for two years.

Even with all the problems with them which have already been discussed, for anyone with a more than a few to reg would make sense to use them and just pay one transfer fee via Nominet to move registrars

Yes the £2.00 deal is pretty unbeatable however I tried to reg another co.uk with them on the 6 Dec, realized the next day that their systems were still having trouble so reg’d it elsewhere and finally got a message from them saying sorry we couldn’t complete the order, here’s a refund on 11 Dec.

They’re dirt cheap but the more I deal with them, the harder it is to get away from the feeling of them being a teenager and his laptop in a Bangkok apartment....

In fairness to Crazy Domains and as a footnote to the AUD/GBP pricing issues I posted above, they finally sorted it out and my co.uk’s will now renew at £2.50 per year which is still extremely cheap.

Perhaps they're marginalizing through higher than average hosting and add-ons (which will tempt users once hooked with a registration and familiar with their interface)....

....but with so many domainers, it's a risky strategy with no longevity IMHO

May be a chance to save some cash in the gold rush though

I've been using them for months too now. I initially regg'd a bunch of around 20 or 30 names at £2 a pop then paid Nominet one transfer fee to transfer them all to Daily (largely as I was suspicious for the reasons that people have already mentioned and just wanted to save the initial reg costs)

Since then I've actually gone back to using them all the time and have started transferring some of my Daily names (which are due for renewal) into Crazy Domains to get the £2 renewals. I thought this might be problematical but it's not - it is a bit slow however, ie you change the tag with your existing registrar, follow Crazy's transfer procedure then usually have to send them a chasing email a few days later in order for them to get the domains in your control panel. There's no cost for this and they do reply to support requests (albeit after a couple of days)

They apparently do charge for things which other companies don't which is obviously how they're making their money, but if all you're doing is straightforward registrations and changing the nameservers as and when you do a site then it's an easy way to save money.

To date I've had less problems with them than I've had with either 123-Reg or Daily.

I see that Crazy Domains are advertising domain registration for £1

The £1 price seems to be limited to 2 .com domains maximum - if I put 3+ in the cart, the others are £7 each.

I registered 25 .co.uk domains with them a few months ago. Had no issues.

I wanted to transfer one out, asked them to change the TAG and 12 hours later it was done.

I did find when registering, that it wasn't as quick as other services, and took nearly 12 hours to register my domains.

There are around 7 on the day drops everyday registered by them which I have seen, over the last month or so. Must be working out, the aussie currency must be so strong that by the time they pay nominet they are rolling it :p
